12th Man: Week 16 vs. Arizona

12th Man: Week 16 vs. Arizona

I’ve been trying to find the words I would use to describe Seattle’s game against Arizona on Christmas Eve. All I’ve managed thus far is, “wow” and, “this is a fucking disaster” and “Seahawks going FULL Seahawks.” Pass defense was atrocious, Tyler Lockett broke his leg and will be lost for the season, and Steven Terrell was tested and failed epically, facilitating 17 points for the Cardinals (by my count). Anyway:

THE GOOD: The Seahawks offense managed to score much more than six points. Russell Wilson had one of his best games of his season, throwing for 350 yards, four touchdowns and ZERO INTERCEPTIONS! Doug Baldwin had a career game, pulling in thirteen catches for 171 yards, including a 42-yard touchdown where he calmly ran off on the plug. Jimmy Graham caught a 37-yard touchdown on what would’ve otherwise been a very quiet day. Alex Collins played and wasn’t disastrous. Jermaine Kearse caught his first touchdown. The offense simply got shit done in the fourth quarter, scoring 21 very needed points to make this a game. Paul Richardson did things too, making crucial plays and finding his way into the end zone. Kam Chancellor has been really good.

THE BAD: The pass defense was awful. Steven Terrell botched a tackle and wiped out Jeremy Lane on J.J. Nelson’s 80-yard touchdown grab. Steven Terrell botched the help on another play against J.J. Nelson, facilitating another 41-yard gain. Jeremy Lane got flagged for pass interference. To reiterate, the pass defense was awful. Russell Wilson was sacked six times, five in the first half. The run game was… largely nonexistent. David Johnson scored THREE goal line touchdowns. Jermaine Kearse still can’t properly set a pick. Calais Campbell was impossible to block.

THE…HELL WAS THAT? Jermaine Kearse caught his first touchdown of the season on a goal line fade. Alex Collins played and wasn’t disastrous. The Seahawks scored 21 points in the fourth quarter. Steven (Stephen? Whatever) Hauschka missed a crucial PAT, and had a field goal blocked.

I’m tired. This has been a tiring season. God’s got it.

9-5-1. On to the 49ers.
