Beard Power - Exfoliation

Beard Power - Exfoliation

I know I know; I'm late. I started the Beard Power Series at Part One and never ever came back. Fear not my bearded brethren and bearded to be, I am here to help with a few tips and tricks for a better beard.

Exfoliation

Gentlemen lets get comfortable with the idea that we should exfoliate our skin just as much or even more than women. The hair that comes out of our face is coarse and curls under our skin causing painful razor bumps and irritation whenever we shave. The process of exfoliation removes dead skin cells and exposes fresher, younger looking skin. The more you practice a healthy skin regimen the better your skin will look and feel.

Now you should exfoliate at least three to four times a week as part as your daily routine and before you shave not after. Shedding the dead skin and opening up your pores should result in a cleaner smoother shave. Wet your skin first with warm water to open up your pores and to lubricate your skin before you apply your product. There are two types of exfoliating products you can use, chemical and physical. The latter being the kind of product with micro-beads or seeds in them and the former the more gradual kind that breaks down skin cells. How you choose all depends on your skins sensitivity so do your research and use what works best. After you wet your skin apply a small amount of your product and apply using the tips of your fingers in a circular motion. You want a gradual application and don't overdo it on product. Remember a dime to nickel sized amount should be enough and if it isn't, you can always add a little more. Also you aren't scrubbing your mom's old crock-pot so take it easy. After you're done rinse with cold water to clap your pores closed and pat dry.

Some products come 2 in 1, scrub and moisturizer combined while others don't. A moisturizer is always recommended because you don't want to dry out your skin. Some products like Nivea for men come in a complete set with a wash, scrub, and moisturizer and after-shave balm. I suggest you get a set if you're new to the game so you can get the best of everything for your dollar.

Pro Tip

A great natural way to create your own facial scrub with avocado seed is available on YouTube by Dulce Candy if you ever run out of your own. I do this every now and then and it's a great way to save money.

Well that's it for now my bearded brothers. Did I leave anything out? Let me know on Twitter and look out for more Beard Power tips from yours truly.
