Should Chris Paul Leave the Clippers?

Should Chris Paul Leave the Clippers?

With the NBA Playoffs right around the corner, the Clippers are back at it again; this time they will face the Utah Jazz in the first round. The Utah Jazz are a tough team, and have been for quite some time, with the Clippers at #4 and the Jazz sitting at #5 in the Western Conference they could shock most NBA fans and knock the Clippers smooth out the first round.

The Jazz, a team with Rodney Hood, Gordon Hayward, Joe Johnson, Rudy Gobert, Derrick Favors & George Hill, just to name a few will go up against CP3, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. I really can't call the series but if I did then the Jazz would probably win in an interesting 6 games, but let's say this did happen, once again the Clippers don't make it past the 2nd round; Doc Rivers coaching ability will be questioned and the Orlando Magic rumors would start…AGAIN.

Blake Griffin (rightfully so) is going to catch jokes about his toughness, and DeAndre Jordan will have flashbacks about holding the Dallas Mavericks hostage back in summer 2015; that was such an epic 2-3 days of free agency.

However, the main guy in all of this is Chris Paul though, CP3 is an elite point guard, but he hasn't made it to a conference finals yet. I don't know what it is, the Clippers have the talent but just on basketball reputation…you can't trust them. I mean they did blow a damn 3-1 lead to the Houston Rockets in 2015, and I understand last year was kind of different; the Portland Trailblazers defeated them but their main stars were injured. Once Chris Paul hurt his hand…it was a wrap.

Now what happens if they do lose? Should CP3 leave? Absolutely, but that's if he really wants to win, Los Angeles is such a great environment but he's not going to win it all with the Clippers. Paul will be a free agent this summer and rumors are already floating that he's going to take that $200 million dollar max contract…or will be go to a new destination? More than likely he's staying in LA, but if he does decide to leave where should he go?

2 teams come to mind, back to his old squad in New Orleans or the San Antonio Spurs. Now we all of know DeMarcus Cousins really doesn't like Paul, ever since that hilarious flop attempt in Sacramento, but let's say they put things aside and look at the big picture. If CP3 joins the Pelicans with Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins and Jrue Holiday they could make some noise in the West. Now do they need a few more pieces? Yes, because Solomon Hill is BBQ chicken at the wing position now. Maybe with a couple of signings and a trade you could make that roster legit. Keeping Terrance Jones would have been cool but I understand why they had to let him go. If CP3 joins the Pelicans this summer they would be a top 4 team in the West. However, with better talent than what he had with the Clippers this season. I'm still not sure about Alvin Gentry coaching yet, but we'll have to wait and see I guess.

The other team is the San Antonio Spurs; just picture the lineup with CP3, Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Danny Green. I'm not saying that would put them ahead of the Warriors, but they would definitely challenge them in the West. Also, Greg Popovich is a great coach and might be the best ever; with Chris Paul leading the team under Pop it might just be perfect. If the Spurs manage to keep their core roster, and add Paul it would be an entirely different ball game.

It's up to Paul to determine if winning is important to him or if he just wants to cash out.

CP3 is one of my favorite players but man he's outta here if he doesn't make the conference finals this year! He’s been getting a pass for far too long, and no this isn't slander or whatever you want to call it, we're just tired of seeing some of best players waste their talent on mediocre or trash teams; same with Carmelo, but in Melo's case, it's not all him. Sure Melo got that 5-year $100+ mill contract, but it’s the Knicks organization at fault. That organization is a cesspool right now and they screwed Melo over. You mean to tell me you gave a flabby and sick Joakim Noah $70 million? I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they give Derrick Rose the $100 million he actually thinks he deserves. And now with Phil Jackson returning for 2 more years, if I were Melo, I'd ride out this last year in NY and leave summer 2018, go straight to Cleveland and start the Brotherhood Era with Bron. The last 3-4 years in NY have been wasted, 2012-2013 was the best season for Melo but nobody was stopping Bron. You got the money now it's time for a ring, and that's exactly what CP3 needs to do before time is up.
