It's about time somebody addressed the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and I'm fed up to the 25th power! Dan Gilbert has been the owner of the Cavs since 2005, and throughout all the ups & downs this franchise has suffered, it's truly remarkable that he's still in the picture. I miss the good ole Cavs days when Quicken Loans Arena was known as Gund Arena, why did it have to change up? I don't know, it's like Gilbert stepped in and took over everything from the front office to the presentation.
In the basketball world we recently had somebody in the front office of the New York Knicks get canned, that person being Phil Jackson; he gave the Knicks 4 years of pure hell, and basically pulled off a $60,000,000. Dan Gilbert on the other hand…he's in control of EVERYTHING, and the only way he leaves the Cavs is if he steps down as owner & decides to sell the team. Rumors were spreading last year that Gilbert was going to sell the team to Warren Buffett; Buffett has been connected to LeBron somewhere down the line for business and he (Buffett) has also been spotted at Cavs games in the not so distant past.
As far as I'm concerned, Gilbert owes Bron the entire franchise and whether Buffett & Bron both own the Cavs one day, it's time to get Gilbert the fuck out of the Q. Gilbert’s idiocy is extremely frustrating considering how successful the Cavs have been since LeBron returned. Speaking of which, when LeBron came back in 2014 there was a certain letter Dan Gilbert had removed from NBA.com.
Wasn’t there an agreement to make this team better no matter how much money was being spent? What happened to that? In February when the trade deadline was almost over, the Raptors acquired Serge Ibaka, not even 20 minutes after the trade, a source close to the Cavs reported that ownership had given former general manager David Griffin the ok to up the payroll, which they were already over. Everybody thought that was the call to go get Carmelo Anthony but it obviously it wasn't as the Cavs did nothing except wait for Deron Williams & Andrew Bogut to become available in the buyout market. So we're still waiting to see how this increased payroll thing falls out.
Last week, news broke that David Griffin would not be returning as GM of the Cavs, and I was pissed! Why would you let the best GM in the history of the franchise walk because he demanded a raise? The roster he constructed for the Cavs, with the help of LeBron, was the reason why we won the damn championship in 2016! Dan Gilbert is worth something like six billion dollars according to Forbes, would it have really hurt his pockets to pay David Griffin? Gilbert hasn't given a GM a contract extension in the 12 years he’s been owner. The way Gilbert operates is shameful considering donated money to his current president's inauguration fund but you couldn’t pay the GM a little extra money…get the hell out of here! Also, why is Dan visiting his president when his team doesn't have a GM?! This makes no sense, man, you let your GM walk when he had deals for Paul George and Jimmy Butler in place and now a week later you're lollygagging with orange man.
I honestly don’t know what to expect if Chauncey Billups doesn't take the Cavs Vice President job. Bron already accomplished what he set out to do in delivering a championship to the people of Ohio, who hadn’t seen one 50+ years. I wouldn't be surprised if LeBron left the Cavs again because one of, if not the biggest reasons he left in 2010 was no money being spent to get him the help he specifically asked for. The Cavs fumbled the Amar’e Stoudemire trade, and acquired Antawn Jamison instead. Still, people/fans thought Bron should have stayed, and were taking Gilbert's side after that letter filled with trash he dropped, which is hilarious! Gilbert & his stupid letter are why I still supported Bron after he left unlike those other so-called fans that low-key showed their inner racist and burned his jerseys, only to now they “love” him again.
Like I said, I don't know what to expect from Cleveland this summer but they better not drop the ball on any trades or free agent signings. These owners think they're slick, and it's a shame almost all of them don't care about winning; it's all about the money game. Dan Gilbert and Phil Jackson think they're Jerry Heller or something with the way they’ve tried to sabotage organizations out her. All I know is Dan Gilbert better get his ass up, and make some phone calls with the temporary GM. Gilbert needs to start making the right decisions for the Cavs franchise because if he doesn’t he can't blame anybody but himself when Bron, and inevitably Kyrie leave.
All eyes on you, Dan Gilbert, WTF?
