Dear Black Twitter

Dear Black Twitter

Dear Black Twitter,

I wonder if you're tired of discussing the same things every week. Is there some kind of "wheel of topical conversation" that someone spins daily that constantly lands on the subject of $200 dates and splitting rent? How does one become "woke" or a Twitter feminist? Are there clubs offline I'm unaware of? Maybe some kind of secret decoder rings, I don't know about. I don't even know if I'm a part of "Black Twitter" to be totally honest. I am Black and I do have a Twitter but I'm not too sure if I'm a part of "Black Twitter". What I do know is that as soon as a topic such as engagement ring size or who's plate do you make first, you my friend are right there to remind folk that we aren't doing enough. I learned so MUCH that I wasn't aware of thanks to you, and even question my blackness daily. Black Twitter whoever you are; set trends and the mood of a billion dollar social media platform without a dollar being exchanged which leads me to my next question:

Why do you allow all of your content to be used freely without receiving a single cent in return? I mean someone has to be making a profit off of all of the stolen tweets and trends set almost daily, right? I'm pretty sure someone from the Black Twitter tribunal has met with Jack Dorsey as much our blue vested hero has right? Well, even if that's not the case Black Twitter is chock-full of talented men and women I'm pretty sure we'll be all right. Anyway I hope you read my letter and I really hope you write back. You'll probably hear from me soon even if you don't. Thinking of you always...

Sincerely - Drew
