The Thursday HIT (Honored In Time) - Brandon Roy

Brandon Roy was, for lack of a better term, FUCKING AMAZING. Not only was he great to watch and a breath of fresh air in the league; as my bro Al says he was "easy to cheer for". In a league where some guys play long enough to see themselves become the villain, Roy was a hero that we all rooted for no matter who our favorite team was.

Sadly, degenerative knees ultimately ended his career, robbed him of his dream and us of one of the greatest talents we've ever witnessed. It's a fate that some of the all time greats have met far too often and it sucks. I have conversations with my pops to this day about how great B. Roy was and could've ended up being. My pops watched ALL of the greats and Roy stands out as one he himself is at a loss for words over when it comes to exactly what could've been.

This playoff game against the Mavs back in 2011 is one of the greatest performances I've witnessed as a sports fan. The Blazers faced a 23-point deficit...and then Roy went absolutely insane to lead them to victory. His energy and will to win rubbed off on his teammates as he found them for assists and motivated them to be great. It felt like I was watching a movie, but this was real life and it gave me chills.

The 4 point play with 1:06 to go in regulation to tie the game...man, listen.

I miss seeing him play. I wish that man nothing but peace and the best in life for the joy he brought to me as a fan of basketball. This is me picking the flowers while I can still smell them, salute to Brandon Roy.
