The Humanity Virus

The Humanity Virus

"Instead, you multiply and multiply until every resource is consumed. The only way for you to survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern... a virus. Human beings are a disease, cancer on this planet, you are a plague, and we... are the cure." - Agent Smith "The Matrix"

The world is dying. From the oceans to the pollutants in the air mother earth as we know it isn't what it used to be. Deforestation, fracking, drilling, over farming, mass production, improper waste management and a litany of other fucked up things have pushed us to the brink. While the big orange dummy in the White House cut funding to the E.P.A. the rest of the world has embraced renewable energy. As great as that may be we have not addressed the real threat to the world, us.

I admit I wasn't on board with the whole global warming thing for a while. When I was a kid scientist warned us about the future of our world and we didn't do much then and although efforts are being made, most seem to be in vain. We are injecting our animals with steroids and hormones so they can grow faster for our over-consumption of meat. Not to mention the environmental impact of meat production. [Source]  The temperature fluctuates so bad due to global warming most of our fruit and vegetables have no chance to grow because the soil is taking on too much carbon. [Source]  We have overfished and polluted our seas and we have contaminated the little fresh water we have.

While I can go on all day about the hundreds of dying species or the melting of Artic Ice I am here to tell you about us, the walking living breathing human virus. We no longer live out of necessity instead we live out of constant greed. Nothing closes at night so we consume energy more than we are supposed to. Our food has gotten bigger and more decadent and available 24 hours. We constantly reproduce and with no true threat to our species, we continue to grow and expand. We are building our steel and glass towers higher and higher to house our many inhabitants. We are still dependent on fossil fuels so we are sucking the earth dry and toxifying our lands. We are living well outside of our means and it is all justified by our incessant need to be entertained. The Earth is our host and we have been treating it very badly. And what happens when a virus attacks the host, well the host fights back. Bigger storms, earthquakes, flooding, are one way the earth has tried to eliminate us and I only feel it will get worse.

Since we treated mother Earth so bad she no longer desires to produce for us. We have killed her animals, poisoned her water, and destroyed her air. GMO's are everywhere, from fruit to vegetables to meat and fish. Scientists have even gone great lengths to develop robotic bees to help pollination. [Source]

It's no coincidence NASA has been exploring life on other planets, searching for earth-like satellites to inhabit man. Who knows how long our future generations will have on this planet if we continue to keep up this behavior. Yes, you and I are a plague. We aren't even necessary to the Earths ecosystem. We have only continued to destroy what's beautiful about this planet and it's only a matter of time before it in turns destroys us.
