We NEED a Last Friday Movie

We NEED a Last Friday Movie

As you know, last weekend John Witherspoon announced on a radio show that a new Friday movie now has the official green light thanks to a "new guy" at Warner Bros pictures and he's going to meet with Ice Cube the next week. Ice Cube has been trying to get this movie off the ground for years now, since 2011 it's been in development hell, now this "new guy" at Warner is a new executive producer for the studio, New Line Pictures was where the original Friday came from first in 1995, in 2014 New Line merged with Warner Bros and now the studio is under Time Warner, it's all politics and bullshit but we know how they goes.

The script for the fourth and final installment titled Last Friday was finished in 2012 and it's rumored to bring back the cast from 1-3 and even have Smokey return, that sounds great and according to Cube everyone is supposed to be involved and he's just waiting on the studio to cut the check. The only one who's skeptical about returning is Chris Tucker, in a interview in October 2016 he said he's not sure if he should return because he doesn't want to ruin the magic of the first film, now I can kind of see where he's coming from because if you bring Smokey back you can't just have him be the same Smokey selling weed for Big Worm still while making repetitive jokes, too many movies have failed with that. Here's what they could do though, since DJ Pooh the secret weapon of the original Friday is returning to write the script, I'm sure they can bring the magic back in a different way, stated by F. Gary Gray was that a rumored concept for Last Friday is that Smokey is a rehab counselor, that sounds funny and very different from the old Smokey, but scripts do change and this might be a better plot, since marijuana is legal now why not have Smokey be the owner of his own weed dispensary, Craig and Day-Day get jobs there but they don't know they work for Smokey yet, now you can't call the shop "Smokey's" because that's too obvious unless you execute right, I mean it's ways you can work around that.

I believe bringing Chris Tucker back as Smokey would be great for the fans and a good look for him, Smokey doesn't have to be the super hyper loud mouth guy all the time, he could be the a mixture of that and be cool at the same time, it's been 20+ years so I'm sure he has to show some growth. Rated R Chris Tucker is the best, so if he can bring most of the energy from Dead Presidents, Friday, Jackie Brown, Money Talks or even Rush Hour 1, it's no question Last Friday will be funny and worth the wait, if he just duplicate what he did before then it could be a letdown.

Why do we need a Last Friday? Well because we got so many other sequels to comedies so why not this, for example we got 3 Hangovers and other weak dry comedy films, hell we even got a Bad Santa 2 recently and I liked that so why not cut the check and give the fans what we want, you would think the studio would've gave Cube the green light in 2015 after the success of Straight Outta Compton even though that was through Universal, its time to see Craig be the smart one while yelling at Day-Day while he gets yelled at by his dad Mr. Jones for not taking out the trash again, I want to see Smokey own a weed dispensary, Deebo, Stanley, and Red again, I still cry laughing at the original Friday for many reasons, you can point out a lot of different stuff in that movie, and the sequels were cool too but nothing tops the original, it's time to get the cameras rolling for Last Friday and aim for a 2018 release, now is the right time.
