NYG Report: Week 4 vs. Minnesota Recap
Another prime time game, another opportunity for my Giants to embarrass me in front of my friends and loved ones; they did just that.
The first drive started out looking as if we would take advantage and put point on the board first, only to see it stall out more and more the closer we got to the end zone. Punt team is sent in, ending the drive, leaving it up to the defense early; a defense short handed by injuries to a limited DRC, Eli Apple, and Olivier Vernon to name a few.
Defense completely stifles the Minnesota offense, forcing them to punt from their own 8-yard line. Just when I thought, "ok, defense! now let's get the ball back and put up 6!"...Dwayne Harris pulls a Dwayne Harris, muffing the punt, allowing Minnesota to recover in our territory. A few plays later, the guys in purple are in the end zone and we're stuck wondering what just happened.
From that point on, we went through moments of Eli throwing the ball to the ground like he just received his punishment for bad grades. At times, Eli looked as if the team he jokingly said didn't have his "number" had his hotline blinging crazy. Odell would be targeted 9 times, hauling in 3 receptions for 23 yards. Those numbers don't show a player who was locked up, but one who wasn't always given good looks on those 9 targets. His frustration spilled out on the field, yet again, as he picked up an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
All in all, if the game was played on paper we would be undefeated with our talent; on the field we've yet to figure it out. McAdoo looks lost and overwhelmed too much for my liking, and we go as the offense goes for the most part. Defensively, Spags is coaching like Tom Thibodeau with his rotations, or lack there of, and it's hurting us.
The last 2 weeks have been too much "same old Giants" and not enough progress. We sit at 2-2, and if we don't get our act together FAST...the 3 could show up on the wrong side of the W-L column as we face the Packers next.
Sunday Night Football will, in my opinion, show me who we really are. The whole world is watching to see if Odell can start having fun again and finally dance in the end zone this season. I have high hopes that he will, time to show up.
