Putting You On: New Hennessy Blend & Bottle
“New bottle; who dis?”
The sentiment above is exactly what Hennessy is attempting to do with their latest creation. Hennessy has a long history of doing many things but one thing they are not is inventors or experimenters with their cognac, so for them to add a new addition to the family is big news. This year was the passing of the torch to 8th generation master blender Renaud Fillioux de Gironde, nephew to 7th generation Master Blender, Yann Fillioux and we’re already seeing changes at Hennessy. The new baby to the family is the Hennessy Master Blender's Edition Selection No. 1. Yes, its about to get real folks.
The Master Blender's bottle is square up top and looks like an old school bottle of cologne, something out of the Great Gatsby’s collection. This unique cognac was crafted as a single batch by Yann Fillioux; using hand-selected Eaux-de-vie (special grapes used to make cognac). Aged in both young and old French barrels. It is bottled at 43% ABV to release powerful aromatic tones combined with delicate spicy notes full-bodied and refined blend. Unfortunately, there isn’t much information about the taste but David Driscoll of spiritsjournal.klwines.com said, “The palate was so elegant and mouth coating, while the finish was a whisper of dried apricot and toasted almond. The style was restrained, drier, and focused entirely on that same soft-fruited character.”
Which means that it’s not as intense as some other options and women might find this blend to be tasty. Now, a 750ml bottle will run you about $90 and the smaller 375ml bottle will cost around $45. From the looks of things, this might be a must cop for culture purposes and selfies. Be ready as it looks like it will be released on November 2016. As soon as I get to have a taste, I will update this post and give you the real, until then, drink up, but as always drink responsibly.
