Let's Speculate: Detective Alonzo Harris in Training Day

Let's Speculate: Detective Alonzo Harris in Training Day

In 2001, a classic film titled Training Day was released starring Denzel Washington, and Ethan Hawke, with a script written by David Ayer and director Antoine Fuqua to helm the project. The role of officer Alonzo Harris portrayed by Denzel Washington became one of the most craziest and yet popular characters in film, earning Denzel his Oscar win while going up against Will for Ali. From the start of the movie to the end Alonzo takes on a ride of a cop who goes by his own rules, but why?, we don't know too much about his back story except that he was in deep shit with the Russians from an incident in Vegas which lead up to him being murdered. Alonzo wasn't always a corrupt cop according to one deleted scene in the movie where he explains back in his days as a rookie he witnessed a ruthless gang member named Too Fine who would train and beat his dog to "kill niggas" only while the 2 cops he were was just watching and waiving at him, this scene showed a different side of Alonzo as he said he was ready to hop back on the bus and go home, maybe this is why he turned out to be who he was and almost getting his partner Hoyt killed....

"The office" according to Alonzo was his car, notice in Training Day we never see him go to the police department or anything, he makes a phone call to find information on a street guy named "Sand man" but that's it, maybe after the shit Alonzo seen in his rookie days and how the PD went through their own corruption he didn't want no parts, instead he created a team of his own and became rogue cops, if anything he became LAPD worst nightmare, not to mention that Roger was the victim and ended up stealing his money, now did he sell dope to kids?, it's possible but we really don't know, Alonzo had to pay the Russians by midnight or he'll become the next homicide story on the news, that was the talk of the town and Alonzo had been planning to kill Roger and steal his money for a whole week, Hoyt just got caught and was basically cornered to make a decision, Alonzo finally seen that Hoyt wasn't built for his world and left him as food for the Mexicans. Alonzo tried to warn and give hints to Hoyt about other police officers, Hoyt was told you can become him and earn you stripes or give the fellow officers a hand on the side of the road when somebody's car breaks down, wolf or sheep. Alonzo even sat back and watched Hoyt fight 2 crackheads to see what he was built on, saving the Mexican's cousin in the alley, after beating them up, taking their money and leaving the handcuffed in the street possibly left for dead, Hoyt wanted real justice but to Alonzo's logic it was "street justice".

When Alonzo spoke to the 3 Wise Men, they knew from the minute he walked in the restaurant he was in deep shit, one even mentioned he didn't want to see Alonzo end up like other officers on the front page newspaper, after paying them off for the "warrant" for Sand Man, they let him make the call for the Roger hit, the 3 Wise Men were just as corrupt as Alonzo. After the hit on Roger, Alonzo probably made the biggest mistake of his life, going BACK TO THE JUNGLE, if you supposed to owe somebody money by a specific time why would you go back?, yes Alonzo had a son he went to see but pussy is really what got him dealt with, all he had to do was get the money, make the phone call, meet the Russians and make the drop, it's simple, pulling off a heist then see Eva Mendes after ain't so bad either but his life was on the line, that's real life situations in 12 hours, when the Mexicans let Hoyt live they said it was just business, that's terrible and Alonzo knew what he was doing, he was fed up but Hoyt got to him first, the bloods in the jungle was tired of his shit and possibly making them become extortion victims. I'm convinced Alonzo wasn't always a rogue cop, he probably did his job by the book but he got tired of the shit, LAPD didn't fuck with him and vice versa, he was his own precinct, his own unit, and he snapped after the Too Fine situation when he was a rookie, but unfortunately he didn't make and the Russians never got the money, in fact Officer Hoyt turned in the money to the evidence room, in another deleted scene which is the alternate ending, the 3 Wise Men showed up to Hoyt's house telling him that Alonzo didn't make his appointment, Hoyt told him he turned the money in and they left, Alonzo was a wolf but ended up becoming a sheep when it counted. Boom.
