Fins Final: Dolphins vs. Bills Week 7 Recap
The Miami Dolphins followed up their rousing victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers with another one. This time against the likes of their AFC East Rival the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo had come in riding a four game winning streak with an impressive running game gobbling up over 300 yards. Jay Ajayi just fell 100 yards short of that output with his second 200 yard rushing performance in a row. Watching Ajayi rumble was reminiscent of another bowling bowl of a another Dolphins running back with dreadlocks whirling by defenders in Ricky Williams. In fact Ajayi was the first back since Williams (Chicago and Buffalo, 2002) galloped for back to back to 200-yard performances. Only four backs in history have matched that feat including Ajayi. He steered a steady passing day from running Ryan Tannehill who sealed the game with a long touchdown pass to Kenny Stills in the 4th quarter. The defense chipped in with timely plays to get off the field and was able to sack Bills QB Tyrod Taylor three times. The true story of the game and the last two weeks in fact has been the offensive line. Mike Pouncey and company have been shotty in pass blocking and the run blocking wasn't much better. Coach Adam Gase streamlined the running back rotation by making Jay Ajayi and Damien Williams his primary ball carriers. Releasing bad holdovers on the offensive line like Jamil Douglas and Dallas Thomas also fortified the line. The results have been quite rewarding. Former local high school standout Sam Young has stepped in to play a pivotal roll as well. The Dolphins head into the bye week with positive steam. They should be a legit contender for a playoff spot with their new mindset.
