NFL AFC Playoff Picture
To all my fellow football fans, its about to get real. One week remaining and the AFC playoff picture is already set. Here is my analysis of the AFC playoffs and predictions of what we can expect to see.
Lets start with the wildcard teams. My laptop froze the first time I tried to type this so I will try again, yes the Miami Dolphins are going to be in the playoffs. A statement that is truly weird to hear aloud but give them credit for putting the pieces together this year. All of the money that the Dolphins gave Ndamukong Suh seems to finally be paying off as he is anchoring a very stout defensive front. It also doesn’t hurt that the Dolphins got one of Chance the Rapper’s dread head niggas from the lobby to run the ball 20+ times a game, which is making opposing defenses have to show some 8 men in the box a lot more. Tannehill, what can you say. He plays just like you would expect somebody with that name to play. Matt Moore, a 32-year-old veteran who has seen a lot, is leading this team into the playoffs. His composure has been refreshing to Dolphins’ fans and it might lead to an interesting preseason quarterback conversation next year .The biggest difference I see from Miami this year is more consistency on both sides of the ball game in and game out and thats how they snuck into the wildcard this year. Fins up, LOL.
Next up, the Chiefs. If you look at Andy Reid’s winning percentage this fool might be a HOF coach one day. The curious case of the game managing quarterback Alex Smith is back at it again. Tyreke Hill is running like a mad man and further proving that team dark skin is back in charge round here. Travis Kelce catches anything thrown remotely in his direction. The defense continues to be elite with Berry on the back end, Houston up front and plug in playmakers on the outsides. The key to this team is veteran leadership. The Kansas City Chiefs have a squad based mainly around veterans who have been there an done that and now they have young players stepping up into big roles. Andy Reid in my opinion is an underrated coach who is an excellent preparer and knows how to make sound adjustments on the fly. This could be a scary team to play in a wild card game.
I guess I’ll speak on my Houston Texans smh, yes I said “my”. Brock Osweiller needs to be put on a payment pan to repay us ALL of the money he got this offseason. When your own fans start a gofundme account to raise money to buy you out of your contract just so that you will leave, you know you’re trash. In savage we trust and I’m not talking about 21. This has been a weird season for us without JJ Watt. Inevitably the absence of Watt has challenged other defensive starters like Clowney to have to step up more and more week in and out. Rookie receivers Will Fuller and Braxton Miller started the season on high notes, especially Fuller, but both have been quiet as of late. Miller is on season ending IR. Our running backs look average, defense looks average, and quarterback play with Savage looks okay. I’m personally not expecting a lot from my boys these playoffs with no JJ and a backup qb. I think it speaks volumes on Bill O Brien that he still led this team with all the ups and downs to another AFC south title and playoff appearance. I have a dream that one day we will have a true franchise quarterback to throw the ball to Deandre Hopkins, but for now it looks like Big Ben is just gonna set a NFL record on us in the opening round of the playoffs. God bless.
The Raiders. Poor Poor Raiders. I like Jack Del Rio I really do. Growing up in Jacksonville, FL I saw him close up and first hand all the time and seemed to be a cool cat. BUT, why was Derek Carr even playing in the 4th quarter of a game when Oakland was already up double digits and already clinched a playoff spot? Nobody seems to be answering that question but I digress. To say this was a devastating loss would be an understatement. A team loses its MVP caliber quarterback two weeks before the playoffs are always going to be doomed. You can’t expect McGoin to be able to have the chemistry that Carr had with Amari, or be able to throw those end zone back shoulder tosses to Crabtree that has been working all damn season. The Raiders have a bend but don’t break defense that is complemented by a high powered offense. Without the leader of that offense I dont see Oakland doing anything come playoff time. Their fans can only hope to rekindle this magic next season and to not pull a Carolina Panthers in 2017-2018.
The ONLY team that has a realistic shot at going into Foxborough and beating TB12, ladies and gentleman the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now I will be honest besides Ryan Shazier the Steelers defense has A LOT to prove because them jokers go into modes of refusing to tackle for 10-11 minutes some games. God bless James Harrison who is still a beast at stopping the run but when he has to sprawl those old knees out in coverage on a TE it’s barbecue chicken with a side of coleslaw every time. The Steelers defense needs to adapt the bend but don’t break mentality and they will be all right because their offense is the true definition of LIT. Big Ben HOF. Antonio Brown HOF. Le’veon Bell on the path to being a HOF. BRUH can you imagine if they had Martavis Bryant on this squad still? Unfair. If Ben doesn’t turn the ball over it’ll be hard to beat this team. They have a patient runner in Bell who will break out to WR in a heartbeat and leave your ouster linebacker with athletes foot. You HAVE to double cover Antonio Brown which is going to lead to 1 on 1 matchups every where else OR AB still beating said coverage. Ben can throw it short, deep, medium however he needs to. This is the only threat in the AFC to the Patriots led by COACH Mike Tomlin who needs to shoot the one on one with Terry Bradshaw as soon as this season is over.
Not even going to spend a lot of my finger muscle on these guys because they don’t need any pats on the back. Get it pats on the…nvm. The closest thing to Jesus Christ that you will see in a quarterback Thomas Brady is doing it again. They lose Gronk and somehow it doesn't faze them at all. They trade Chandler Jones somehow that doesn't bother them. You cannot cover Edelman with one person; Blount is blounting. I don’t know what to say, other than we should just induct Bellechick into the Hall of Fame now, why wait? Until somebody beats this team they’re clearly the favorite to win the AFC and the Super Bowl and I feel like we have said this every year for the last decade but whatever. Shoutout to Robert Kraft.
My predictions? Chiefs > Texans, Steelers > Dolphins then Pats > Chiefs and Steelers >Raiders = AFC Championship Patriots 34 Steelers 31
