Status of the Celtics Down 0-2
Well this was unexpected; just ask D Wade. While talking to the media on Thursday afternoon, a reporter asked Wade if he was surprised that the Bulls currently hold a 2-0 lead over the #1-seed Boston Celtics. He replied, "Yeah. You want me to lie"? That's how we all feel Dwyane, that's how we all feel. Don't get me wrong; I was fully aware of Butler, Wade, and Playoff Rondo's abilities to perform when the lights were bright. But I definitely didn't expect Al Horford to make Robin Lopez look like the second coming of fucking Wilt Chamberlain. Who the hell is the player with the max contract? Because if you took someone to their first basketball game ever and asked them that question, I'm pretty sure they would say Lopez. It has really been "the others" that have killed us in this series, as Chicago's bench has thoroughly outplayed our bench.
First, let me tell you why I hate Rondo. As a Celtics fan, Rondo annoys you more than any other player on that team. I don't understand how you can literally not give a shit during the regular season, enough to get you benched, and then decide to just turn it on when the playoffs start. It would be nice to see that effort and focus the other 82 games of the regular season, and maybe you won't bounce around from team to team every damn year. Yes, Celtics fans are well aware how good playoff Rondo is, but it makes you hate him because he doesn't try at all if the game isn't nationally televised. I knew from jump that Rondo was going to cause issues for IT, because when he's engaged he's one of the best defensive point guards in the league. His length, coupled with the fact he still remembers our plays, is giving Isaiah all types of fits. Thomas went off for 33 in an emotional Game 1 following the tragic death of his sister, but in Game 2 he was largely held in check and Rondo is a big reason for that.
I don't even want to speak too much on Wade and Butler because this was absolutely expected. I knew Jimmy was going to come into this series and get buckets, and I knew Wade would be the seasoned vet who played Robin to his Batman. What's frustrating is seeing the rest of this Bulls team (who quite frankly doesn't have anyone outside of those 3) just eat our bench alive. Bobby Portis for 19 in Game 1? Zipser (who nobody even knew existed before this series) goes off in Game 2? This type of shit happens on their home court, but bench players aren't supposed to show up like this on the road in the playoffs. It definitely feels like our team is pressing because they not only feel the pressure of being a #1 seed, but they feel compelled to win this series for IT after having gone through what he's going through. He hasn't quite been himself lately (he missed 6 free throws last game after shooting over90% during the season) and other players are trying to make home run plays instead of playing within themselves.
Remember when I went off on Marcus Smart earlier this season for playing like a dumbass? Well, that same exact Marcus Smart is back. He made a bunch of great hustle plays in Game 2 that gave us a boost, but had WAY too many turnovers and dumb shots. Bruh, you shoot like 15% from 3, why are you pulling up from behind the arc with 20 seconds on the shot clock? You do know they WANT you to shoot that right? Even IT had to come out of his shell and light into this nigga last game. Apparently a fan did too because he got caught flipping him the bird. You know who else has been trash so far this series? Kelly Olynyk, Jae Crowder, Jonas Jerebko, Gerald Green, and especially Amir Johnson. So basically everyone not named IT or Avery Bradley. Our roster will look VERY different by the end of the summer, I can promise you that.
But the thing is, I've learned to not throw in the towel on a Boston sports team, no matter how bad it looks. I don't doubt that we can turn things around despite things looking very bleak. It seemed as though everyone was walking on eggshells because of IT's situation, and maybe a couple road games will loosen us up. Because something needs to change and it needs to change quickly. Don't be surprised to see Tyler Zeller eat up Amir Johnson's minutes. I'm going to be bold and say we win Game 3, and we'll see where we go from there.
