For All Expecting Fathers
For all expecting dads, congratulations. I'm sure you have the same feelings I had when I was in your shoes.
This is something I wrote May 28th, 2014. Months before my youngest daughter was born. Enjoy.
I can't wait to meet you. The happiest day of my life was that Sunday morning in January when your mom called me at work and told me she was pregnant. I had a huge permanent smile on my face instantly.
That smile only grew once the doctor looked me in my eyes weeks later and said "see those 3 lines right there?" & in my mind I go "so it's a boy?" because...well...never mind why I thought it...but she said "it's a girl!"...and I felt it.
That "IT" I'm talking about was this immediate feeling of softness in my soul that made me shed a tear; like, "wow, my baby girl". Just knowing that I'll be the first example of what a man is for you is a huge responsibility and I welcome it. I won't disappoint, I promise.
I'll always be here to protect you from spiders, monsters under your bed, & boys, but I won't be alone. You have a great big sister here, named Jaseena, who's awesome & beautiful, you two will get along great. Then of course you have Mommy.
She's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in my life, inside and out & I hope you look just like her.
I'll be the handsome guy holding you upon arrival. You may not see my face thru the tears of joy but it's me, baby girl.
