The Genius of Eddie Murphy
Eddie Murphy is damn legend, yes I said it, a damn legend, the man has come a long way from doing hilarious Stevie Wonder impressions on Saturday Night Live to becoming one of the biggest and greatest comedians ever with stand-up specials like Raw send Delirious. Eddie Murphy blew up after Saturday Night Live, he took Hollywood by storm with the 48 Hours franchise, The Golden Child and the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, he also started producing, writing and directing his own films in full control with a little help of his brother Charlie Murphy such as Harlem Nights, Coming To America, Boomerang, Vampire In Brooklyn, Life, and Trading Places, he even managed to drop a album in the 80s with a smash hit record produced and written by Rick James titled 'Party All the Time'. The reason Eddie Murphy brings this genius aura to his films is because of his outstanding characters, everything from a vampire, old man, struggling singer, loud talking barber to Italian gangster, but I want to point out one in particular, the character was named Preacher Pauly in Vampire In Brooklyn.
Vampire In Brooklyn, the underrated classic directed by Wes Craven himself, for Wes to team up with Eddie and bring a comedy-horror to life was big, a lot of people like to shit on this movie and I don't know why, it's supposed to be a comedy and nothing more, you'd be surprised how many times people use "terrible" when talking this movie, when you have a cast like Kadeem Hardison, John Witherspoon to bring the laughs with Angela Bassett and Allen Payne for a serious tone it's going to be a mixture of a film, if you're looking for something really "serious" just watch the damn 1931 version, read Bram Stoker's fable or watch the movie or watch Dracula Untold. Eddie Murphy transform into a alcoholic Preacher by the name of Pauly, the scene is so hilarious in this movie but it also points out how real it is for a preacher to manipulate the people that listen to him and follow or do anything he'll say, we know there's some scammers out there and Preacher Pauly was portrayed to be one, they way he carried from topic to topic really fast was right on the money, you go from "necessary evil", with no light there is no dark to "evil ass", he even tricked Rita into believing Justice slept with Nicki, all in a quick 3 minutes span, all Eddie Murphy was showing you how some of these preachers really work out here. After tricking the crowd and singers in the back he thought he was right, he disappeared so quick the choir was singing "evil is good", crazy shit man and most definitely a reflection to society, stay away from the scammers, Preacher Pauly is a classic character in the Eddie Murphy vault.
Preacher Pauly Funny Lines:

• "LIPSTICK ON HIS COLLAR! WHAT KIND OF MAN ARE YA, IT'S A SHAME AND A SHOCKING!"
• "You can push a $2 hoe to the line, she don't have no limits"
• "Now that's evil, when tell your wife I'm going to see Momma, but then you go down to Bushwick Avenue to get you a $2 hoe"
• "Don't be a ashamed cause you got you a little ass, ass is good, and if you get yourself a piece of evil ass, WOOOO!!!"
