The Thursday HIT (Honored In Time) - Grammy Family Freestyle
It's 2006. As if Hov didn't have far more than enough classic lines by this time, he gave us one of the absolute greatest freestyles ever recorded here. The way he turns the room into an oratory off of a mere freestyle is simply magical.
"Hov got flow, though he's no BIG and Pac; but he's close. How I'm pose to win, they got me fighting ghosts." That's such a great bar and an even better observation by Jay. Where it appears that he's speaking in third person, it's actually him bringing the "yea Jay is nice but BIG and Pac were _______ and would be _______ today" narrative people use to lower his rank, pitting him against rappers who aren't even here to defend themselves. He follows it up with the rhetorical question to let you hear just how foolish the talk sounds to him as well.
I could go on and on about the bars and a good look into them, but you should listen for yourself again.
