“All these late nights is made for us…” – Big Sean
Since my very first job, I’ve always worked the night shift. I did that for at least 5 years so that’s just what I’m pretty much used to, being up on the late night. Now that I look back at it I think I’m just a nocturnal person. Some say I’m crazy for staying up so late, but if you think about it, it’s the best time to be up. There usually isn’t anyone else up to distract you, it’s just you and your thoughts. People usually are afraid of the dark, not because of physical monsters that you’ve seen in the movies, but the monsters that are within them. Their own thoughts and how they overthink. I’ve learned to embrace the darkness and channel that overthinking into something positive. Now I won’t say every night has been a successful one at doing that, but the percentage is pretty high.
Also late nights are great for working. My mind is the clearest between 11pm and whenever I decide to go to bed. Pulling an all nighter isn’t recommended for most because of the years it supposedly takes off of your life, but me personally, I feel like that’s a risk worth taking. I get a rush from being up late and coming up with ways to create, it’s like a drug. I get told all the time that I’m crazy for always being up so late. Those people don’t understand what I’m trying to accomplish. Why don’t people get called crazy for being up during the day? Because it’s deemed as normal? If that is the case, then fuck normality.
I’d rather sleep all day and wake up at night and get to whatever it is I want to get to. There needs to be more places that are 24 hour friendly for all the people like me. I feel like we’re a rare breed and we should branch out and have our own society that is completely backwards from how people live during the day. Now I know what Blade feels like being called a “Daywalker”. We have the ability to do both, be out during the day going about our business blending in with the “normal” and also being able to really thrive during the night. So for all the other “Daywalkers” out there, be proud of what you can accomplish at night, not many other people can do what you do. You’re special and gifted in a way you may have not even thought you were. So the next time someone tries to comment on how you live your life and how unhealthy it may be, tell them you’re just a different breed aka cut from a different cloth. When that moon comes out, so should your creativity. Don’t let it go to waste.
