Pats Nation: Super Bowl 51 vs. Falcons Prediction
The practices are over and the final injury reports have been submitted. It’s been a long 2 weeks since we’ve last seen a football game, unless for some reason you watched the Pro Bowl, and the 2016 season will finally come to an end Sunday night. The two teams playing for the Lombardi Trophy deserve to be there, but come from drastically different backgrounds. The Falcons, the team for the culture, are searching for their first Super Bowl win in franchise history and are thin when it comes to big game experience. On the contrary, New England is in its 7th Super Bowl of the Brady-Belichick era and is already stamped as a dynasty.
This has been a good year for the city of Atlanta. Migos is on fuckin fire, Childish Gambino’s show on FX ‘Atlanta’ is a hit, and now their football team is in the Super Bowl. You know the city has to be doing something good if Jermaine Dupri is wearing all leather outfits again. With Michael Vick retiring this week, this franchise has really gone full circle and would love to cap it off with a Super Bowl win. Other than the Packers, I think the Falcons are probably the only team in the NFC I wouldn’t mind losing a Super Bowl too.
I can’t believe those words just came out of my mouth, “wouldn’t mind losing a Super Bowl”. But that’s really the reality for me right now. Don’t get me wrong, I’m hype we’re back in the big game, and I fully plan on talking the utmost shit once again if we win. I still remember that feeling in 2014 when we won, it was a feeling I thought I would never have again after a 10 year Super Bowl drought. I would love to see Goodell hand us the Lombardi trophy after that Deflategate bullshit, because I can guarantee you he didn’t expect to see us here. But I’d be lying if I said this win wouldn’t feel a bit different.
In the past, it was easy for me to ride for my team when people would throw shade at us for petty scandals. But I can’t defend Kraft, Belichick, and Brady’s friendship with Trump. It’s pretty damn embarrassing. There was an Undefeated article about the struggles of being a black Pats fan right now, and I can understand people’s feeling of resentment towards us. That doesn’t change the fact that I think Belichick is the best coach of all time and Brady is the best player of all time, but they’re on some bullshit right now. I can’t let that clown control my life though, and there are 52 other players on that roster with their heads in the right place. Trump is not about to take my hometown team away from me.
When it comes to the game, there are no mysteries about it at all. We know which matchups to look out for, we know each team’s strengths and weaknesses, and we know what it will take for both teams to win the game. Don’t be surprised if this game comes down to who has the ball last, because every Patriots Super Bowl are one-possession games.
I think experience will win out in this one. I’m going to go with both my head and my heart and say New England wins this one 28-24, same score as their last Super Bowl win. But if we lose, I’m blaming it on the Trump curse.
