Paul George did NOT Save Us
As I mentioned, I was in attendance for the Pacers vs. Magic game. Beforehand, I had prayed to the basketball gods for a great game. If not a great game, at least for Paul George to drop 30 or 40 of them thangs to make it watchable. You're probably thinking "damn Wayne, that is asking for a lot," but I did so all while wearing my durag (cape tucked in). I should have been in the clear, right? WRONG.
I have been to well over 100 magic games in my lifetime, seen all types of games and welcomed some of the best players in the game to my hometown arena; but THIS game? Easily the worst I have ever been to. Lets start with the positives: I made it to the game before the second quarter which is an Xbox achievement for me. Conversely, Orlando was already down 10 points by time we got to our seats (surprise, surprise). The only positive of this game was that we arrived "early" to the game (even though I missed my nephew's chorus sing the national anthem which was the sole reason why I even bought tickets to the game but whatever).
The first half saw Myles Turner drill a couple 3s and Jeff Teague get to the rim (and free throw line) whenever he wanted. CJ Miles joined in, going 4-5 from 3, including some big shots down the stretch when Orlando tried to make a game out of it. The game hovered around a 7-9 deficit for the Magic the entire night. Aaron Gordon can't shoot whether you're live at the game or watching on TV. Same result either way. It may be time for Orlando to pull the trigger before the trade deadline. Orlando has been actively shopping its big, offseason acquisition, Serge Ibaka. His contract is expiring and it’s just not working out here; in my opinion? Trade the whole team except Aaron Gordon; the whole goddamn bunch. Trade em for washing machines, rubber bands, used car parts, whatever. At this point, I don't even care.
Notice who I haven't mentioned thus far? Paul George. Orlando lost 98-88 to the Pacers when their best player did not even reach double-digits. That is right. Paul George, top-10 player in the world, had only eight (8!!!!!) points and Orlando still never led in the game. I applaud the Magic because that’s downright impossible to do but they figured out a way to do the impossible. Congrats, Magic. So no, not even Paul George could save this game.
