Stop Lyin' to Yourself About: Equality
In the age of political correctness, the question of whether true equality is attainable or not is often asked. I'm here to tell all of you to stop lying to yourselves about it.
The problem with the quest for equality is that we are missing several key components to why this is highly unlikely. I'm not saying to give up on equality; I just want us to reevaluate how we hope to achieve such a feat.
For equality to happen those in power have to be willing to relinquish their position of authority. Either by force or by the constant demands of the people, the first necessary step is giving in. People who continue to oppress and marginalize must go through a self-realization of what is at hand. Otherwise we must rise up and take down those who are willing to impose their will on the lesser. Which leads to my next point...
If you want equality you must be willing to die for it. Yes, nothing worth fighting for comes without sacrifice. There are people who are willing to kill in order to maintain the quid pro quo but a lot of us aren't willing to die. We have seen that they have made worms meat out of our heroes past and present. They will sink as low as they can to defame and destroy you but are you willing to go through the rigors to be equal?
I ask these things because you must have the patience and fortitude to realize that your request for equality may not come to fruition in your lifetime. Imagine all of the leaders who’ve never seen their dreams of a better world come to pass. Are you willing to lay down the groundwork and NOT see any results from it? I remember saying last week that charity work is more so for us and less to do with actual care for others. That is because we can ultimately see the first fruits of a short-term goal in comparison to a revolutionary one. Change is a slow burn and in the age of microwave completeness not all are willing to endure it or make it to the end.
Finally I want us to stop lying to ourselves about being selfish. Not every cause has a thing to do with us but more so to do with what's popular. Whatever the media, social or otherwise, dictates as noteworthy we fight for or rally against. Certain things we never even thought about are now centered on constant debate. Remember that we are in an election year and people will use your sensitive’s against you to create conversation. As soon as all of the ballots are in the needs of the people are often thrown by the wayside.
The fight for equality is constant and unwavering. People before us put in countless hours of thankless work in order for us to have a voice today. If you aren't willing to do so, stop lying to yourself.
