Stop Lyin' to Yourself About: The Knicks
Every NBA off-season diehard Knick fans have to suffer through sources, trade rumors, coaching changes, and bad acquisitions. And every NBA off-season there are the fans that try to rationalize all of the above with the glassy eyed optimism of a child on Christmas morn. I'm here to tell you once and for all to stop lying to yourselves.
As a Knicks fan who's suffered through every NBA player in the decline of their years visiting our sinking island it's time to say enough. Enough of our rainbows, win now attitude, and click bait headlines. I wasn't mad at the D. Rose deal because I at least saw the potential of his acquisition possibly leading to landing a better free agent. Plus at the very worst he was a one-year rental who would pay off if he were somewhat healthy. However when he's in the news signing the likes of Joakim Noah and Courtney Lee I have to draw the line! A trio of mash unit players is not what I envisioned this off-season and two gallons of the Phil Jackson Kool-Aid wouldn’t do much but drown me out of my misery.
Everything we wanted to happen this off-season happened. "Double A" Aaron Afflalo and Derrick Williams both opted out and gave us about 33 Ms worth of wishing with tons of talent available. Phil showed his genius last season by drafting the gawd Porzingis amidst doubts so he had gained a bit of our confidence. Alas, in classic Knicks fashion our front office is intent on pissing away our hopes and dreams.
What else should we have expected from a team who once felt Jerome James was a desirable option or drafting Frederic Weis aka nuts on face (ask Vince Carter) over Ron Artest! This is the same organization that once employed T-Mac, Steve Francis and Penny Hardaway in their declining years and don't even get me started with Jared Jeffries!
Yet the fans of the team who have been out of the first round of the playoffs just once in the last ten years seem to be convinced that this is all in my head. And this isn't the first year this has happened this is every freaking year since 2000. Have we had good players, of course, have we had good teams, eh once or twice. Not good enough to be perennial contenders, not good enough to dethrone King James, not good enough to draw in quality free agents.
Does knowing all of this make me less of a Knicks fan, hell no! Does denying any of this make you more of an idiot, apparently? So do us all a favor stay off of Twitter and stop lying to yourselves. If not for me the children; Won't anyone think about the children?!
Here's a short list of players we've had since 2000 I didn't mention: Marbury, Van Horn, Othella Harrington, Antonio McDyess, Al Harrington, Mardy Collins, Howard Eisley, Anthony Randolph, Jeremy Lin, Zach Randolph, Jamal Crawford, Eddy Curry, Shelden Williams, Chauncey Billups.
