Theories: The Westbrook Laugh
Since Kevin Durant's departure from the Oklahoma City Thunder, we haven't heard much from Russell Westbrook about his feeling on it. There were reports that KD told Russ he'd definitely resign, but Durant himself almost immediately shot them down. Recently, though, a clip of Westbrook being asked how he feels about Durant surfaced and it got me thinking.
In this clip Westbrook, standing to the side seemingly relaxed, is asked "aye bruh, how you feel about Durant?" and he laughs. Now, you might think to yourself "a laugh? what does that even mean?" I'll explain...
Think about your fake laugh at work and how much you say without actually saying anything by using it. Imagine you're at a party and your friend says, "There go your boy" as he points to someone you fought a few years ago, that "ha haaaa…you stupid” laugh is an entire conversation with very few words needed. Or for the ladies, think about the dude who giggled and told you to "stop" when you went to give him head and you told your homegirl about it. That's the "haaaaaa...THIS nigga" laugh when you see him in public.
That Westbrook laugh is the quintessential "man don't get me started on that hoe ass nigga" laugh. While I don't think there's necessarily hate in that laugh, or between them, I do sense some "don't hit my phone" in it. It's like a diet Jadakiss laugh you break the glass on in case of emergencies like this.
That laugh had a hint of "maaaaaaaan" with just a dab of "oh you mean ol boy?" in it. "Ol boy" is reserved for moments when you know the gentleman's name well, but to act as if you don't is the perfect amount of disrespect. You acknowledge their existence and even snap your fingers pretending to jog your memory: "ahh man...damn I just had it too…was it Kelvin or Ke...damn."
Think about the amount of jokes Russ and KD probably made about Klay's goatee having its own personality like Lil Penny. They probably said Iguodala resembles Martin when he played Jerome on several occasions as well. So, for Russ to see KD go to the Warriors was shocking to say the least. It was basically like your girl ending up in a relationship with the guy she told you was just like a brother to her or "nah you don't have to worry about him, it's not like that." after the breakup.
Durant made the best decision for himself, and while I understand that, there's still a part of me that wanted to see him give it one more shot with Russ. I mean, they were 1 game away from a second trip to the finals before blowing a 3-1 lead to the team KD joined. I did that same exact laugh I heard Rose was on board with recruiting for his new team all of sudden when he was absolutely against it with my Bulls. I feel you Russ.
