The Truth About: LeBron James
“Get the fuck out the throne you clone, the king’s back…” – Jay-Z
LeBron James is the 2nd best basketball player in the history of basketball. I could end it right there but then people would lie and say he’s not by calling Colorado Kob a better player or lying and saying LBJ is better than…because he’s not. Why didn’t I put Jordan’s name there? Well, it’s because the truth is nobody deserves to be in the same sentence as Michael Jordan; I don’t care who the player is. Not being as good as the greatest basketball player in the history of the world is nothing to be ashamed of and as LBJ said himself, “I’m LJ, not MJ.” Well, I’m Al Patron and this is the truth about King James.
There’s this idea floating around that people “hate” LeBron James, when in fact, people just hate his fans. Like Colorado Kob fans they tend to over-exaggerate any and everything to which the general public has to reel them and subsequently LBJ in. However. This is sports, all fans are fanatics and delusional; I’m a Knicks fan, and what’s more delusional than that? LBJ fans/enthusiast, with the help of ESPN, have created an almost unfair standard from LeBron. The truth is there’s only one player to compare and use as the standard for LeBron James and that’s LeBron James. What I resent or don’t understand is how his fans just jump team to team; I am a LeBron fan, you can’t watch basketball and say, “I am not a fan of how LeBron plays basketball.” That’s a fucking lie; the truth is we boo him because he’s not on our team but still admire him. That’s the thing, I love Westbrook, my favorite player in the league, I don’t give a flying fuck if the Thunder win o r lose; I can’t take pride in him winning if he’s not on my team and I would NEVER trade teams just to root for him. Understanding that LBJ isn’t just a superstar, he is a once in a generation talent and player; I just don’t subscribe to this social media era fan where the latest is the greatest and we just jump from trend to trend.
No, LeBron is not a trend, he is the standard and as much as I was drinking the Steph Curry Kool-Aid, I knew what it was/is. LeBron is the best basketball player on earth and has been for the last 9-10 years. I have nothing but admiration for LBJ but I don’t have to cheer for him because that’s just how sports goes. Shit, find a clip of me cheering on my own damn team…you can’t. Sports are emotional and does mean that much to people but when we start talking in truths; people allow their right mind to go left. NOBODY was more hurt by LeBron not picking the Knicks than me. I promise you I had a bottle of champagne on my lap during the decision and instead of a celebratory drink, I drowned my tears in the bottle. So surely as a maniac sports fan, I had plenty of resentment for the evil that was LeBron. I mean it cost him an MVP his 1st year with Miami; Derrick Rose was amazing but LeBron deserves the MVP every single season and will probably continue that until he retires.
We know the numbers 27-7-7 for his 13-year career, improved (yet still sorta broken) jumper, his tremendous improvement on defense (which fucking counts) and all of this while carrying more expectations than anyone in the history of the NBA. The truth is his numbers don’t tell the story, so I will. So LeBron teamed up with 2/5 of the top 5 picks in his draft class but he didn’t start the trend, the Boston Celtics did. Well you’ll say they traded for KR & Ray Ray but McHale played with Ainge, so don’t tell me about the NBA not being rigged. Anyhow, this is why people try to “discredit” his accomplishments but what does that even fucking mean if he’s still a now 3-time NBA Champion? What 1 player has ever won a ring by himself? The answer is ZERO, NONE, NOBODY, NEVER HAPPENED. So why is there the fuss that LBJ chose to play with 2 other stars to ensure a better chance at winning? I would always call the move a sucker move but how would I have felt if they teamed up in New York? I’d smile and laugh at all of you for all the years of pain. Sure, the “Not 1, not 2, not 3…” rubbed people the wrong way but why are we looking for deeper context in a fun moment for 3 players/friends who were genuinely happy to play together? On the court is all that matters and on the basketball court LeBron James is the 2nd baddest motherfucker to ever exist.
This faux debate about the lack of a clutch gene is also bullshit if you understand situation. Think May 31, 2007, Cavs vs. Pistons in the ECF, LeBron scores the last 25 points. Is that not clutch? Oh, let me guess…he didn’t hit a buzzer beater like Colorado Kob did at some point? Think May 22, 2009, Cavs vs. Magic in the ECF, LeBron his a buzzer beating, game-winning 3 because the situation called for it. Think June 8, 2012, Heat vs. Celtics in Boston with the Heat trailing 2 games to 3 and on the brink of elimination, LeBron scores 45 points, grabbing 15 rebounds and handing out 5 assists. Think June 20, 2013, Heat vs. Spurs in the Finals, game 7 for all the marbles, LeBron had 37-12-4 and hit a jumper (not so broken) in the closing moments to make it a 4-point lead and ice the title. Think June 2015, Cavs vs. Warriors in the Finals, LeBron without Kyrie or Love and averaged 36-13-9. Think about June 2016, Cavs vs. Warriors again, LeBron averaged 30-11-9 against a team that won a record 73 games. While numbers don’t tell the full story, impact does and LBJ’s impact is historic on any and every level.
We’ve never seen a player like LeBron James; we’ll never see a player like LeBron James. Do we have to appreciate him? Nope, this is sports we can do and say whatever we feel about the athletes we cheer, boo, love or “hate”. What we do need to do is understand the truth about LBJ is that nobody has come in with so much expectation that going to the Finals 6 years in a row and winning 3 isn’t good enough for some people. LeBron’s legacy isn’t even done being written and people have written him off. Have I nitpicked at LBJ? 100% I’ve called him soft (getting Draymond suspended is SOFT) but really, nitpick is all anyone can do. It’s time I bow down to the king and kiss the proverbial ring. We are living in a LeBron James world and have to respect it.
Next week, I tell the truth about this fucking light skin liar Steph Curry. Until then, stop arguing with strangers on the Internet, it’s bad for your skin; Google it.
