This is the question I ask myself a lot. I really feel like people don’t really care what the hell you do or what you got going on if it doesn’t have some sort of impact on their lives. I’m not going to get into a bunch of things that people don’t care about, I’m here for one thing and one thing only…it’s about the music.
Now, I really do love music, I said hip-hop in a previous write up, but this time I’m talking about music as a whole. I don’t like every single genre of music, but the music I mainly listen to Hip-hop or R&B (typical right? But, WHO CARES?). That’s what I’m on now. People get angry or annoyed at others for liking an “underground artist” that they like or THINK they’re one of the first to be on that artist which is a terrible sense of entitlement cause it’s bigger shit to worry about. Plus, being “one of” doesn’t even mean you’re first it just means you might’ve been a part of a group of people that’s seen it from the beginning or heard in this case, but who fucking cares? Especially in this day and age of the internet where you really don’t know who heard what first. Just because someone doesn’t immediately share it does it mean they don’t know who the artist is or heard their music.
The funny thing is I used to be this type of person to where I felt entitled to the artists’ music like I was the guy who literally discovered and signed them. Now that I think about it, it’s real stupid to have that type of thought process because again, who cares? “I found out about them first, you weren’t even on them like that.” Now read that however many times you need to until you see/hear how stupid that sounds. You’ll realize that you sound like a little kid who lost his spot on the swing. Eventually they’ll be found out by the masses and will have more fans than you could possibly imagine. I get it, you may love music, but your love for it has got nothing to do with other people so keep that whining shit to yourself, please.
So the next time you find an artist you like and know not many people are hip to what they’ve got to offer to the music world, be prepared for them to eventually have a lot of fans one day. At least that lets you know you don’t listen to a lot of trash music. Also, before you go and send off a tweet, snapchat, or whatever it is that you use to get off your thoughts that stem from the “now everybody is a fan of….” ask yourself this question, “who cares?” The answer will be nobody and everyone will continue to listen to that artist you thought you discovered on some LA Reid shit. Just sit back and enjoy the music.
