Will Smith Does NOT Need A Comeback by @MykeDSOM
Does Will Smith need the big comeback that people keep asking for? Absolutely not. After watching his new film 'Concussion' where he portrays Dr. Bennet Omalu (who discovers this problem & the NFL has been keeping quiet on for who knows how long) it's pretty clear that Will can act his ass off and still remains one of the best out there, so please go see Concussion. Now Will has had some shaky decisions in Hollywood, like turning down The Matrix for Wild Wild West, Ridley Scott wanted him for the Frank Lucas role in American Gangster and as we all know he turns down Django Unchained for whatever reason but I might know the real reason.
With the release of Independence Day 2 coming next summer, everyone is asking why didn't Will return? Some say it was he wanted more money, he wanted his son in there but he came out last year and said he clearly says after Men Black 3 he's just not a "sequel guy" (outside of Bad Boys) anymore, and I completely understand that. There was at least 3 sequels in development Will was supposed to come back for, Independence Day 2, Hancock 2 and I Am Legend 2. Only sequel that would've been interesting to see is I Am Legend because technically he didn't die at the end, 2 weeks before release of Legend they re-shot the ending where he blows himself up with the zombies but that was bullshit and of course they wanted source material but the alternate ending he gives the body back to the Alpha zombie and lives, I don't understand it, they should have kept the ending but oh well. Hancock had potential to be a really cool superhero movie but it was executed wrong. Fast forward to 2012, there's Men In Black 3 and After Earth, After Earth was visually good but a bad movie, and I just don't know about MIB3.
Will says he turned down Django because he wanted it be about a love story or whatever which it clearly was, the slave is free, gets beautiful revenge on everyone and gets his wife back. Since nobody wants to say it I'll do it, we know the saying "you gotta take risks" but damn Jamie took a big one in Django, I think Will seen that part in the script where Django is chained upside down with his balls and shit all out and about to get tortured, I wouldn't did that either, FUCK THAT, you can only go so far but that's some of the things where you have say no or ask for a stuntman, EXCELLENT movie overall though. When Focus dropped this year of course people called it "trash" but it was very good and different, and I think this is what Smith is doing now, no more blockbusters unless it really means something, I also think people overlooking the fact that Will is a 2-time Oscar Nominated actor, of course he wasn't going to win to Denzel but the fact they put Ali up against him was bullshit politics, both of them deserved that award but I won't get in too deep with that. It's also crazy how all of a sudden Will is nominated for best actor at the upcoming Golden Globes and now people saying the Golden Globes don't mean anything, that's bullshit too, but of course it's Will Smith and people are gonna say what they think they know. Personally I hope Will wins every damn award for Concussion so people can complain, I don't give a shit.
I'm one of those fans that want to see Will in (almost) everything, it's going to very interesting to see him play Deadshot in Suicide Squad next year and I think it was the right choice, I can't wait. He also has a movie in development titled Collateral Beauty which sounds like a different take from his past roles, he still has the remake of the blaxploitation 70's classic Uptown Saturday Night starring him and Denzel which I hope starts filming sooner than later, but the million dollar question is, WHERE IS BAD BOYS 3!?, when Sony announced Bad Boys 3 and 4 for 2017 & 2019 release dates, that was the best news of the week, and to be honest, as a fan of the greatest cop franchise, it's been 12+ years since BB2, we deserve at least 3-4 more sequels of these movies, Will announced a couple months ago that it's possible within 12-16 months we will see Bad Boys 3, and now recently last week he says he met with Martin and they're on the 80% radar of getting it done and exploring new ideas and locations, (as long as Michael Bay is back directing) so hopefully filming will start summer or fall 2016.
Like I said before, Smith doesn't need the big comeback like some people think, he doesn't need blockbuster after blockbuster anymore, Will made his mark with that and now Tom Cruise is doing it, I know he turned down the Marvin Gaye biopic but I also hope he changes his mind soon. Will still has a lot left in the tank, and in my opinion I think he is just getting started now and hopefully will win multiple Oscars before it's time to hang up the jersey.
“The only thing that I see that is distinctly different about me is I'm not afraid to die on a treadmill. I will not be out-worked, period. You might have more talent than me, you might be smarter than me, you might be sexier than me, you might be all of those things you got it on me in nine categories. But if we get on the treadmill together, there's two things: You're getting off first, or I'm going to die. It's really that simple, right? - Will Smith.
